Artist Statement

Born and raised in Chicago, As a small child, I became obsessed with animations that are more classic and traditional. I have obsessions with the 80s and 90s Disney animated studios with Japanese animation studios like  Studio Ghibli and Studio Trigger.

I have major experience in illustration, photography, and printmaking. My work is pretty inspired by one of the  Japanese prints and the 3 artists that I feel inspired are Kinu Nishimura, Takashi Murakami, and Alex Ahad. They gave me the influence to bring everything back to life to become an artist. There is still a lot of experience for me to understand what is the goal to be an artist.

Eyes of Vermillion (a novel zine)

Dystopian worlds are characterized by descriptions of human suffering oppression, war, or disease in a futuristic society. The Walking Dead, Nier Automata, and Attack on Titan are examples of dystopian worlds which deal with these issues. Dystopian thinking is important because of climate change, air pollution, violence, disease, meteors.  Lucid dreaming is the experience of dreaming with the awareness that one is dreaming. This novel combines the idea of lucid dreaming and dystopia. Each chapter will take the form of a journal entry.

Amy Janvour lives in an underground facility on a sixty-acre farm owned by her parents. They have lived underground for three years. The year is 2148, and Amy, who is now seventeen, has started to have nightmares along with waking dreams that are very strange. Ten years ago, her parents and other members of the scientific community became aware of accelerating global warming that would demolish the planet’s surface in four years. They tried to warn the rulers of each country on earth, but no one would listen to them, so the people who could afford it left the cities to escape the cataclysm. Amy’s parents did the same and took 100 people with them to live in their facility. Her parents chose people of different ethnic backgrounds. All families passed a personality and character profile, so there would be no violent or disruptive people. The planners felt that it was very important for everyone to have a stable psychology to ensure that they could get along with each other since they would be confined for a very long time. But the test was poorly designed for happiness, resolving conflict.

The underground facility is called Vermillion. Vermillion is a repurposed underground transit system, a large comfortable compound complete with a school, hospital, clinic, lots of recreational outlets, libraries, theaters, and a huge science laboratory. To get from place to place, they walk on subway tracks. The exits are sealed. There were 10  people in Amy’s age group and she was close with five of them. Their names are Agosto(August) Grance, April, Marz, and lastly, Lyde.
